Chelyabinsk to Ufa

16SEP - Yesterday in Chelyabinsk I walked to the corner grocery. Took a photo of the fruit section and the guard, all stores have guards, became very upset. I had no idea what he was saying but sure wasn't going to give him my Galaxy S5 mobile. So, I just left the store.

Today we hit the road at 09:00. Rain was predicted mid-day at about the halfway point. We got a few sprinkles but nothing much. It cleared as we neared Ufa. However the truck traffic in both directions increased. As we passed over rolling hills on the Europe side of the Urals the trucks had problems on the long uphills. Made the 267 miles in to a long day. Especially for Ross and Jean on their KLRs. We noted that some of the truckstops now have a more European look.

We got here at 16:00 and had a real challenge getting the last quarter mile to the Hotel Eurasia. Dave and I had the luck today and got a nice room on the second floor (no elevators in this part of the world unless you're at a four-star hotel) with windows on two sides.

The temperature today ranged from 44 to 52. Expect about the same tomorrow, and possible scattered showers as we ride the 367 miles to Kazan. We'll take a rest day there and maybe let the rain pass by.
