Nerchinsk to Chita

2SEP - Left at 10:00 to let the fog lift and for it to warm up a bit. 42 degrees at 10:00.

Stopped for coffee and the ambulance crew wanted to take our picture, so we took took their picture.

Arrived Chita at 13:45, a 217 mile ride. Once again, a blue sky day, perfect road and 60 degrees. Read that September is the perfect month to cross Siberia - so far that seems correct.

  1. You're staying at the same hotel in Chita that we did in 2004. 8-)

It'll be clear sailing (i.e., paved roads) from here, with the occasional construction zone thrown in to keep you on your toes. The drunk drivers will become more common as you continue west. Be sure to stop and have your photos taken beneath the giant statute of Lenin ("Fred the Red's Dead Head") in Ulan Ude.
