Ulan-Ude to Irkutsk

5SEP - We left at 09:30 and stopped at the city square for photos with Lenin's giant head. 50 degrees and threatening rain. Never happened and it turned in to another blue sky day.

Came upon a truck that had jack-knifed and was blocking the road. Being on bikes we were able to just ride aroubd the wreck. No such luck for cars and trucks. There are no other roads and it is 100+ miles in eather direction for a large wrecker to clear the wreck. While we were planning on how to ride aroubd the wreck it caught fire. The other truck drivers came with their fire extinguishers and put out the fire. Later in the day we came upon another wreck. Tractor on one side of the road and trailer on the other. Then as we entered Irkutsk there was a city bus that had burned to just a shell. Hey, just another day in workers paradise.

For the better part of the 277 mile day we circled around the South end of Lake Baikal. The lagest lake in the world with more water than all the Great Lakes combined.
